Peas & Beans

Bruce Farms guarantee 100% traceability right back to source of seed, with our own fleet of mobile pea viners and our own factory for processing and storage of the frozen product.

The Bruce family has been growing peas and broad beans for almost 50 years and we produce almost half of Scotland’s annual production with the support of almost 200 landowners in Perthshire, Angus and Fife.

Our premium farming location and techniques create our premium products. We are the only Scottish supplier of peas for Birds Eye and as such have invested heavily in technology to ensure full control over every stage of the production process.

Bruce Farms guarantee 100% traceability right back to source of seed, with our own fleet of mobile pea viners and our own factory for processing and storage of the frozen product.

The time from the first pea being harvested to frozen has been reduced to 150 minutes per load and the viners work 24 hours a day from July to September during the harvest.

We have our own trial plots and taste test our peas every day during the harvest. Different varieties have been introduced following extensive field trials, with more and more emphasis on quality and taste.

By working with Bruce Farms, our farming partners are able to include legumes into their crop rotation, vital for the fixing of nitrogen in the soil and reducing the need for artificial fertilisers. Farmers value peas and beans as a ‘break crop’; 80% of our landowners have been working with us for over ten years – some for 50 years.
