The Government recommends we all eat at least five portions of fruit or vegetables per day to help reduce the risk of some cancers, heart disease and many other chronic conditions.
One adult portion of fruit or vegetables is 80g or just under 3oz.
- That’s a couple of handfuls or a cup of raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and strawberries.
- For children the amount is what they can fit in the palm of their hand.
- That’s three heaped tablespoons of fresh or frozen peas and beans.
- Potatoes don’t count towards your 5-a-day as they’re part of your starchy food group but are vital for a balanced diet.
